On March 4th, we were invited to join students and faculty at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth Charlton Graduate Consulting Club’s (CGCC) inaugural meeting. The student-run club was created to bring together and provide mentorship opportunities for MBA/MS students at UMass Dartmouth who are interested in becoming management consultants.
The ceremony was opened by the club’s president, Seth Laroque, who spoke about his passions for consulting. He explained that “for an analytical and creative mind, the consulting industry is one of infinite opportunity.” The club’s faculty advisor, Professor Vasudevan, also spoke about the purpose of the club, saying that “one of the issues that typically you have is that you come here, take some classes, and go, but you do not see much interaction either between the students or between the students and the faculty.” The CGCC aims to solve this by helping graduate students engage with other like-minded individuals while giving them the tools and advice they need to prepare themselves for careers in consulting.
The Dean of the Charlton College of Business, Angappa “Guna” Gunasekaran, and our founder, Nuno Couto, were also speakers at the event. Guna explained that members of the CGCC would benefit from the resources that UMass Dartmouth has made available to them. “We have outstanding faculty,” Guna said. “They not only bring that kind of research experience to the classroom learning environment, but also they bring their real-life work experience.” Couto, who was a guest speaker, took the opportunity to share his personal advice for aspiring management consultants. A video of his speech can be found below:
As Couto mentioned in his speech, mentoring is incredibly beneficial to anyone, student or otherwise, looking to land their dream job. With that in mind, we’re very proud to support the CGCC in any way we can going forward. This is one of many causes that we support in line with the mission of Higher Ed.
